DVF Studio x San Francisco

Proceeds go in support of the devastation caused by the forest fires in California.

With the encouragement of local partners Levi's and Google, DVF have brought new brand experience, DVF Studio, to California this October with an experiential event and retail pop-up space in San Francisco for four days only. Understanding that this is a challenging time for many in the Bay Area, DVF will make a donation in support of the devastation caused by the forest fires in California. The pop up opened up with a privateDVF x Levi’s Party in celebration of the DVF Studio x San Francisco Pop-up and our insider Stylist and Influencer Olya Dzilikhova reported:

IMG_2996(1).JPG

"It was not just a collaboration. It was a true experience to see all- American brands merge into something this grand! All time favorite of many celebrities and women around the world is the infamous "DVF Wrap dress". It flatters every age and every body type and Diane is a true proof to this statement. The all time favorite of every generation for the past century is Levi's jeans. Initially being built for the miners, they quickly became a staple in many women's closets.  To see this collaboration take place is another proof that WE Ladies can be both strong and feminine at the same time! My favorite part about that evening was that Diane Von Furstenberg herself was running around in the most amazing customized 'leopard- print' jeans and doing fittings on the guests. She would give her imput, take a picture with her infamous peace-sign and run off like a true social butterfly she is known to be."

The Pop-Up – An innovative experience open to all.
DVF transformed a 3500 sq ft industrial space in the Marina district into a multidisciplinary pop-up that melds creativity, innovation, technology, and fashion. Showcasing a modern, diverse and inviting vision of luxury and design, DVF Studio x San Francisco welcoming the public on Tuesday, October 17th through Friday, October 20th.

The Product – Print and color expertise, luxurious fashion with an edge.
In addition to exclusively designed items, the pop-up showcases a special edit of the Fall 17 and Winter 17 fashion collections, the first time for San Francisco customers to shop and experience both collections together.
The Purpose – Bringing fashion and experience to where the audience wants it. Supporting enterprise through philanthropy.

Levi’s®
Inspired by the free-spirited Seventies vibe of the DVF Spring 18 collection, a partnership between DVF and world-renowned denim expert Levi’s® is celebrated with an opening night party involving screen-printing on Levi’s® vintage-inspired Premium denim, large scale mural art, and live music by sister duo Say Lou Lou. The brands have shared a legacy of freedom and craftsmanship since founder Diane von Furstenberg wore Levi’s® on nights out to Warhol’s Factory in the 1970’s.

Google
Leaders from across Google and the Bay Area will gather to celebrate the community of women in Silicon Valley, as well as the role of technology and philanthropy as agents for change in society. Google and DVF have a shared history of investing in the success of women, and will come together to support organizations championing women business leaders of today and tomorrow through education, leadership development, and programs of artisanal expertise, which Saunders integrates into his craft at DVF. Guest speakers include Lorraine Twohill – Google, CMO; Jonathan Saunders – DVF, Creative Director; Tara Chklovski – Iridescent, Founder/CEO; Alyse Nelson – Vital Voices, Co-Founder/CEO; Ariela Suster –Sequence, Founder.

An installation of Levi’s® customized by Saunders will be on display throughout the four-day pop-up as part of a site-specific exhibition of archival photographs from the Levi’s® archive and of Diane von Furstenberg from the era in which she founded the brand. This month, Levi’s® 501 jeans and the first DVF wrap dress from 1974 feature alongside each other in the Museum of Modern Art’s new show focusing on iconic fashion items from the 20th and 21st century, titled, “Items: Is Fashion Modern?”

PIA X TOKYO GAMINE

What happens when the worlds of Fashion and Art join forces?

The worlds of art and fashion often collide, from Elsa Schiaparelli’s collaborations with Salvador Dalí to Louis Vuitton with The Chapman Brothers and Prada with Elmgreen + Dragset. Fashion and dance have had a love affair since the beginning of time.

To celebrate designer Tokyo Gamine and San Francisco Ballet dancer Mathilde Froustey Danseuse, Pia Øien Cohler (owner of PIA store, one of the hottest retail destinations in San Francisco) and celebrity stylist Mary Gonsalves Kinney put the two together in a creative fashion performance of Alice in Wonderland.

The white space at 414 Jackson Square was filled with the most fashionable crowd and for a moment turned into a stage.

San Francisco Ballet principal dancer Mathilde Froustey, five San Francisco Ballet dancers and Look Model Agency models, perfectly transformed pieces from Tokyo Gamine collection into the costumes for three acts of “Alice and Wonderland”. Here are fantastic dance episodes and more as captured by Drew Altizer Photography.

PIA boutique carries pieces from over 50 international collections including Giambattista Valli, David Koma, Zac Posen, and Nina Ricci and a home to notables like Nicole Systrom and Priscilla Zuckerberg (wives to Instagram and Facebook founders, respectively), Sabrina Buell, Yves Behar, and Ali Pincus.

You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Actress Natasha Wagner At Shop Curve in San Francisco

Celebrating the Legacy of Natalie Wood

Last night upper Fillmore "It" boutique Shop Curve in San Francisco, currated by owner Nevena Borissova, welcomed actress Natasha Gregson Wagner, the oldest of two daughters of iconic actress Natalie Wood and producer Richard Gregson.

The celebrity-favorite Curve store lives and breathes fashion, with each employee a trained stylists and a buyer with an eagle eye in the latest and the trendiest in Fashion. At Curve you will find labels like Balmain, Thierry Mugler, Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf, Mason Michel. Nevena Borissova has been friends with Natasha Wagner for over 20 years. The two met at Curve shop in Los Angeles.

The statuesque, petite and so graceful Natasha bears more than a passing resemblance to her mother. The actress arrived precisely at two in the afternoon, with her husband, actor Barry Watson, warmly welcoming everyone at the store.

To celebrate the legacy of her mother Natalie Wood, Natasha presented a book, a gardenia-based fragrance in a square glass bottle and a candle, adorned by Ms. Wood’s signature. Gardenias were Natalie Wood's favorite flowers.

The biographical coffee-table book “Natalie Wood: Reflections on a Legendary Life” by Manoah Bowman with Gregson Wagner offers an in-depth look at Wood’s film career, while shining new light on her private life with many never-before-seen images and family commentary. Striving for happiness is what Natalie Wood was all about and the book is a glimpse on her story. Not her mysterious death, but how she lived her life and how passionately she loved.

Neiman Marcus Fashion Chat with Jonathan Saunders of DVF, Joe Zee and celebrity stylist Penny Lovell

Let's talk Fashion!

Joliegazette was invited to a fashion chat at Neiman Marcus of San Francisco, where the editor-in-chief of Yahoo Style and FABLife host Mr. Joe Zee chatted with creative director of DVF, Jonathan Saunders and celebrity stylist Penny Lovell. We also got to preview Jonathan's red carpet looks for DVF. Scottland born Saunders loved to play with colors and materials. He's graduated Central Saint Martins in London and started his career as a furniture designer. Within 48 hours of showing his final MA collection, Saunders was commissioned to design prints for Alexander McQueen. In 2003 he created the iconic bird-of-paradise print that featured in McQueen's spring/summer 2003 collection and became one of the most photographed prints of the season. Designer is known for his unique prints, one of his trademarks is his use of traditional silk screening techniques. Saunder's goal as a designer is to make women feel beautiful, modern, elegant.

Joe Zee: Straight out of college you caught the eye of Alexander McQueen?

Jonathan: It was a big learning curve for me working with Alexander McQueen. He would alwasy analyze things.

Joe Zee: In 2003, you launched your fashion label and showed his debut collection at London Fashion Week for autumn/winter 2003-4. Then you left to design furniture again, then Diane called.

Jonathan: Yes. Diane called and I assumed we'll meet briefly to catch up. Three hours later we were dangling off of sofa. Both of us. We taked about focusing on the brand, respecting and supporting the brand.

Joe Zee: Was it hard to take over the collection?

Jonathan: Diane is very respectful and supportive of me. She loves prints and design and she loves women and understands them. It felt like a natural transition.

Joe Zee: Penny, you are a celebrity stylist stars like Anne Hathaway. When you dress someone for red carpet, what do you look for?

Penny: I look for something that represents them. Something that shows personality. Stars are doing their job in that outfit, so I it has to be of good quality, design. I prefer bold and interesting looks. It's horrifying what I do. Especially when my celebrity clients get on the red carpet and hundreds of photographers yelling, taking photos, it makes me anxious. Dress has to fit perfectly.

Jonathan: Penny and I are friends for 10 years now. She knows how to stand out as an individual, create unique outfits for celebrities that can also translate to every day.

Joe Zee: Where do you find inspiration?

The process is different every time. I am inspired by Japanese kimonos or Afrigac textile designs. I tend to start with an idea about which colours are relevant and then research art. I have a few favourite bookstores that I love to go to. But then it may be someone that I meet while travelling that sparks off an idea for a character.

Check out some of the looks from the collection and some shots from the fashion show below.

KEN FULK PRESENTS DAVID DOWNTON AND CARMEN DELL'OREFICE

70 YEARS A SUPERMODEL

Ken Fulk. Photo: Drew Altizer

Ken Fulk. Photo: Drew Altizer

There is always something bubbling at the chicest,  four-story 1920's building known as "The Magic Factory", owned by designer-extraordinaire Ken Fulk. A true San Francisco icon, known for his design works and for his most talked-about events.

Last night Ken Fulk brought together San Francisco crowd to meet extravagant 85-year-old American model and actress known within the fashion industry for being the world's oldest working model, Carmen Dell'orefice and one of the world's leading fashion artists, David Downton.

David's conversation in a grotesque British pronunciation with an old friend Carmen Dell'orefice drew irresistible attention of the guests .

"In 1945, 71 years ago, you roller skated to work at Vogue. How?"

Carmen shared her story growing up with a single mother, being a child of depression, living in a foster home, her love for ballet and how it inspires her in life and being discovered by a photographer's wife on the bus, while on her way home.

She noted friends such as an American photographer Irving Penn who is known for his fashion photography and portraits.

"How does one ever understand what is coming at them unless you have friends who pull you in and help you. I am grateful for these people."

After decades of seeing the ins and outs of the fashion industry, Dell’Orefice has a wisdom we all envy. “When you understand how to do that dance, when the photographer says, ‘Hold it, do this or do that,’ and you know you’re getting it right. Oh, it is fun.”

"How do you manage to be in the business at 85 in the industry that hates 30 year olds?

“I am in territory that business considers unmarketable: age and white hair. Slowly, however, I started to own that territory little by little because I stood up for age.” "The world is growing up and learning to accept. Number does not matter. Age does not matter. You have to dress the body you're in".

How did you find courage?

"Courage is facing my reality", she replied.

Her intelligence is what's truly unique about this extraordinary woman. In fashion, the beautiful hello is an art that most powerful people have mastered and Carmen is one of them.

Graceful, wise, elegant, timeless beauty.

Despite the fact being called non photogenic by Harper's Bazaar, 85-year-old model's career is still going strong!

When the money is gone, here I am
