Singer Demi Lovato awake after suspected overdose: media reports

demi.jpg

U.S. pop singer Demi Lovato, who has spoken openly about her history of drug and alcohol abuse, is awake after she was taken to a Los Angeles hospital on Tuesday suffering from a suspected overdose, according to media reports.

Lovato, 25, a Grammy-nominated recording artist, was “okay and stable, reported People magazine, quoting an unidentified source.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support,” Lovato’s representative told entertainment magazine Variety in a statement.

Representatives for Lovato did not respond to a request for comment.

Entertainment news website TMZ, quoting law enforcement sources, reported that Lovato was found unconscious at her home and was treated with Narcan, an emergency antidote for suspected opioid and drug overdoses.

Los Angeles police said they had responded to a medical emergency on Tuesday involving a woman on the Hollywood Hills street where Lovato reportedly has a home but declined to identify the person.

City fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said a 25-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital from that location.

Lovato released a song last month called “Sober” in which she sang: “Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore, And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor, To the ones who never left me, We’ve been down this road before, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”

The New Mexico-born performer rose to fame on Disney Channel shows “Camp Rock” and “Sonny with a Chance” 10 years ago and forged a pop career with hits like “Skyscraper” and “Sorry Not Sorry.”

In a 2017 YouTube documentary, “Simply Complicated,” Lovato spoke about years of substance abuse, eating disorders, and drinking, saying she first started using cocaine when she was 17.

She entered rehab at the age of 18, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Lovato, who has some 69 million followers on Instagram, was in the midst of a U.S. tour and was due to perform in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Thursday.

Her hospitalization became the top trending item on Twitter on Tuesday, with fans and celebrities expressing concern and support.

Country singer Brad Paisley tweeted: “Addiction is a terrible disease. There is no one more honest or brave than this woman.”

Fashion elite was forced to switch off all electronic devices on Saturday to attend the New York wedding of Anna Wintour's daughter Bee Shaffer. Yes, there was a social media ban for those invited to witness Shaffer, 30, wed her photographer beau Francesco Carrozzini, 34.

The wedding  took place at the Vogue editor's home in Mastic, Long Island.  Bee wore an elegant gown while saying I do to the son of Franca Sozzani - the former Italian Vogue editor who passed away in 2016.

Social media ban was most likely enforced by Anna. She enforces a similar ban each year during the Met Gala - although celebrities have been known to bend the rules when they can't resist sharing some behind-the-scenes shots of the glamorous soiree.Despite being the children of two prominent fashion icons, the twosome have managed to keep their relationship relatively private.

DailyMail showed some of the exclusive images from the wedding. It appears there were several flower girls .

Bee's Bachelorette party took place in Mexico as seen on her Instagram post.

Propaganda is information that is not objective and is used primarily to influence an audience. Login it to any social media outlet today, chances are you will run into some sort of article, or news story. "Nevertheless she persisted", "Resist", "Covfefe", "MeToo". You comment, like, or share it with your friends and it gets passed around.

A single tweet can reach millions of people instantaneously.
Going back in history, whenever any society had common knowledge and a sense of common interests, it made use of propaganda. Prior to the internet age, the mechanics of shaping public opinion by spreading information and ideas was more regulated, hierarchical, and specialized. For instance, during the First World War, complex military operations were needed to drop propaganda leaflet bombs from airplanes, saturating the landscape with paper messages targeting enemy soldiers and civilians. Ephemeral printed materials, in addition to radio broadcasts and motion pictures, were the primary vehicles of propaganda during the first half of the twentieth century. Among the most powerful tools of psychological warfare, propaganda posters weaponized the art of graphic design.

2535-3307.jpg

As international hostilities erupted during the 1910s and again in the 1930s, the American government and its foreign counterparts sought effective channels of communication with the public. Centralized bureaus—like the Committee on Public Information in the United States, the Ministry of Information in Great Britain, and the Reich Ministry of Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda in Germany—looked to the worlds of art and advertising, recruiting painters, professional illustrators, and filmmakers to tell their stories.

2535-2297.jpg

DeYoung Museum in San Francisco today features a selection of World War I and II–era posters from the collection of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, shown alongside films, ephemera, and textiles from the 1910s to the 1940s. The design and content of these works demonstrate consistent strategies for selling ideas and manipulating public opinion that persist to the present day.

Current show featuring works by Julius Klinger, August William Hutaf, Seiler and Homer Ansley.

Exhibition: May 5, 2018 – October 7, 2018

Rules of a good tone in the beginning of the XX century

Why the young ladies were forbidden yellow dresses and taught not to blush

One hundred years ago people decorated their lives with great ceremonies and conventions. Some rules of politeness and manners now surprise or even seem cruel to us. Others wants these rules to return. Fortunately, in our time, everyone can decide for themselves whether to be old-fashioned and how much.

1.jpg

The young lady was allowed to be silent and smile

It was hard for unmarried girls - they were surrounded by most restrictions. They were forbidden to laugh publicly, cry, sneeze, yawn, and eat something that should be chewed or makes their mouths  open wide (ice cream was acceptable - it was eaten with a tiny dessert spoon).

Girls were strictly forbidden to wear yellow dresses - yellow clothes meant for sex workers. The most decent and the most girlish color was blue (remember the discussion of dresses of girls in Gogol's "Inspector"?)

In addition, the girl could not even be one on one with a man for two minutes alone. If she went into an empty room where a stranger went in, this women would looked  potentially fallen. Questions like "Who is that stranger?" was not allowed, it was Ok only for an adult lady.

Both women and girls were forbidden not only to look at the street for a long time, but also to work with the work (embroidery, sewing, knitting) at the window that opens even to the quietest street because someone can pass along it. It was allowed to glance into the window and walk away. That is why in the old novels the girls are constantly running to the window, waiting for the guest, and not sitting next to it.

Girls and women were forbidden to visit toilets in restaurants and theaters (they were designed for male only) and to go to the toilet when visiting guests, no matter how long they stayed.

On the street, a girl and a woman could not eat, drink, wear gloves, tie a hat, or even finish their toilet in any way. Sitting down, it was impossible to lean against or lean against a bench, an armchair, a sofa - until the appearance of bustle, in which the lady could often sit only sideways. No matter how boring it was to sit, you could not move your fingers or correct your clothes.

The girl had to be able to easily blush, the technique was even taught. And, on the contrary, she should not blush when she heard the ambiguity, not to show that she understood it. In addition, the ambiguity of the girl had to be able to recognize,  not to accidentally not answer them with a smile. So the girls knew much more obscene things than they showed.

Watch your speech and feet

Both men and women in the conversation with the opposite sex were forbidden to discuss things that are hard to understand. You could not make the other feel narrow minded and you could not bore each other.  When in mixed companies it was recommended  not to talk about the relationship between a man and a woman, politics or illnesses.

Ladies couldn't cross legs, stretch your crossed legs or  push your legs way under the chair .

If a woman walked alone, the man would bow. If with someone else, you'd wait for her permission. Picture of Edmund Blair Leighton.

If a woman walked alone, the man would bow. If with someone else, you'd wait for her permission. Picture of Edmund Blair Leighton.

The man also knew how to be patient

If the man accompanied the lady to the theater and during the interval she did not want to leave the lodges, he was only allowed to leave for a few minutes. During this time you could only have time to say hello to a friend.

If the husband did not want to visit friends or relatives, then the wife did not have the right to visit even a close friend. But if the couple already had children of the older adolescence, the wife was obliged to take them to receptions, evenings and to visit.

Bachelors and widowers were not allowed to pay visit  to an unmarried acquaintance. Husband could do it but only without his wife. The exception was made for the widowed fathers of adult daughters - to them, on the contrary, friends were only with wives.

Pretty shocking for a modern man would be the rules of greeting. Nowadays, a man is accustomed to freely choose the form of greetings and farewells and decide independently whether it is appropriate for him to greet the lady. Previously, the man always greeted first, but on the street or in another public place - only if the lady showed him that she did not mind admitting their acquaintance (looking directly at him, for example). In addition, the man always bowed, shaking hands with the lady, kissing her or even allowing herself to kiss the cheek was allowed only if the lady herself offered it with a gesture or word during his bow. The same applied to farewells.

Acquainted  man and woman never greeted each other when seeing each other on the street in the evening or at dusk. Men avoided a strong handshake, not only with ladies, but with other men (although each hand was squeezed more palpably than with girls or women). A firm handshake was considered appropriate only to secure a vowel or an unspoken contract.

One great rule was that the girls were advised to wake up urgently if they saw an obscene dream. Go figure.

How Did Michael Jackson Tilt 45 Degrees In One Of His Dance Moves?

Can you really do it?

jackson1.jpg

Michael Jackson, great artist, an icon was not just a singer but an incredible dancer.  He won eight Grammys in one night and was the first artist to sell more than a million digital tracks in one week.

People around the world, to this day try to imitate his smooth slides and spins, his  crotch grab and of course, his trademark moonwalk. But there is another dance move Michael Jackson performed that many of us still scratching heads our about. Remember his 1988 music video for "Smooth Criminal"?

Michael Jackson's patented in October 26, 1993 shoe.

Michael Jackson's patented in October 26, 1993 shoe.

In one scene, Jackson and a few of his dancers effortlessly lean forward 45 degrees with their backs straight, feet flat upon the floor, and hold the pose until they return upright. Effortlessly!

"It's not really possible physically to do it," said neurosurgeon Dr. Nishant Yagnick, a longtime Jackson fan who practices at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India to CNN. "He was cheating gravity."

613306735.jpeg

"You can bend a maximum of 25 or 30 degrees forward before you fall on your face," added his colleague Dr. Manjul Tripathi, another fan. "I tried to do it, and I fell."

The shoes "have a specially designed heel slot which can be detachably engaged" with a "hitch" (such as a nail) projected through the stage surface "by simply sliding the shoe wearer's foot forward, thereby engaging with the hitch member," according to the US Patent Office description.

Now you know the trick Michael Jackson used to make people believe he was THE dancer of all the dancers. Many people hurt themselves over trying this tilt trick, landing on their faces. And many still do try to attempt it. Guess no more. The secret is now open.

Is Cannes Film Festival Outdated?

In 2015 Cannes Film Festival banned women flat shoes on the red carpet.

Yesterday, in a daring and modern protest Kirsten Stewart took off her Louboutins and walked the red carpet barefoot.

In a time when the most criticized policies are the salary gender gap and when women and men are exposing scandals of bullism, harassment and abuse of power, why the Cannes film Festival still dictates high heels only for women?

In a world where diversity tries to make its own way, why women are still seen as Jessica Rabbit clones?

In a fashion industry where athleisure is the trend, Gucci loafers and Dior kitten heel are the most sold shoes in the world, why the Cannes Film Festival is keeping its positions on such a last century image of the woman?

Why forcing women's image on such a basic, dated and obvious stereotype? Isn't the Hollywood desperate housewife look of stars such as Cate Blanchett coming into conflict with the outside world? And, at the end, who can benefit from this runway of women dressed (or undressed) like Rita Hayworth in the '50s.

Is that the meaning of modern elegance?  Isn't it more interesting the style of Victoria Beckham, Stella Mc Cartney, Gabriela Hearst? Isn't more respectful to let women dress as they prefer?
