Je Suis Claudio Parentela
Oh...a long and very short story...I believe that everyone is born to be as their heart every night, every moment suggests them to be.And sometimes, often, very often, this call becomes more and more insistent, more and more deafening that it is impossible not to hear and follow.

What is your artistic journey?
Oh...a long and very short story...I believe that everyone is born to be as their heart every night, every moment suggests them to be.And sometimes, often, very often, this call becomes more and more insistent, more and more deafening that it is impossible not to hear and follow. My real life began many years ago, way back in 1995, since then I have never stopped drawing, painting, photographing... cutting, sewing, gluing, experimenting....I have only drawn in black and white for 14 years....and then always and a lot of drawing, I couldn't do anything else, I don't know how to do anything else, I don't want to do anything else....it's my autistic-artistic and only way of being in the world
What is your personal story and creative process ?
As I said before, I started drawing and painting professionally in 1995. Since then I have been painting and drawing every day. I started drawing on many zines and magazines around the world, especially on zines from the ex-Yugoslavia, there was a very lively movement in those places, so many beautiful zines and magazines, so much creativity, so many very good artists with whom I have worked and collaborated during all these years. And then in the USA, Italy, Greece, Spain.... I drew frenetically and joyfully... I also did a lot of mail art.... collaborated with artists, labels, publishers, galleries. I have always had a special love for Black Indian Ink, I adore it and I adore its thousand shades.... For my first 14 years I drew only in black and white. I then moved on to color and collage almost out of urgent necessity, naturally, by chance. Collage is an extraordinary way to get to know yourself and always open new doors,... I like to experiment with anyway, I'm naturally curious. I believe that art is inherent to our feelings, to our thoughts, and follows the flow of our life, incessantly.

How do you deal with criticism toward your work?
Criticism, obviously intelligent criticism, is a great way to rethink your work, it helps me grow professionally, to see and focus on details that I had missed... I like everything that makes me think. Criticism helps me to know and to know myself better.
Advice for aspiring artists?
Always be yourself, and always have fun. Art is catharsis and joy.

In one sentence what is unique about your work?
I have dedicated myself to plastic art since I was 15 and my purpose is to bring wellbeing, dream and fantasy to the viewers through my dreamlike paintings, through doing art and through sharing with people, educating and transcending boundaries…
Why do you do what you do?
I want to motivate people, especially children and youths to create some type of art and help them believe in themselves – this is the most valuable part of my work.
What inspires you?
My work is more than anything an invitation for viewer to enter dreamlike, sometimes surrealistic worlds. I want the viewer to escape for a few seconds from their day-to-day reality without asking questions, only enter and dream, like a type of hallucinogen… I invite them to just be and see, and try to look at the works in another way, which is why I have chosen abstract style because it offers the resources of doing so. What inspires me the most is sex – not merely the act that shows the carnal animals that we are, but sex as a divine action that is repeated in all creation. The term “sex” derives from the Latin word “sexus”, or “sectus”, meaning section or separation. Sex is an action constantly repeated in order to create and re-create, from mathematics, physics, and chemistry to theories on the creation of the universe. If one pays attention, there are sexual actions everywhere, not only in creations of human beings. It is beautiful, unique, good. Maybe I see it this way because I am a follower of Gurdjeff’s theories, which argue that all manifestations of the self is sexual in nature, and that sex is the most important archetype in the human machine. Another thing that inspires me is ancient civilizations – the ones buried by history, true stories of Mayan, Egyptian, and South American civilizations. It seems like the true story of humanity is much more incredible than science fiction. I constantly absorb information from mystery, hidden worlds, aliens, UFOs, parallel universes. I think these are the most important topics in life, but nobody seems to want to talk about them or know about them much. In this case we are face with the same, timeless questions: where do we come from? Where are we going? And who created life?
In a word, I am inspired by life itself, by nature, the universe(s), the infinite and inexhaustible worlds completely unknown to us… biology, sciences, arts… ultimately, LIFE.
Describe your personal style.
In fact I refrain from saying too much in my paintings. It has never been my intention to talk about politics or social matters in my paintings. In any case, I am convinced that the images in my paintings exist somewhere in the universe, and that I have seen them in one of my lives in many dimensions, perhaps as a particle of cosmic dust. I was there, in these places, in this landscape. I could describe, with images and words, worlds never seen before and with luxurious details. And how? Why? Where does this information come from?
Your ultimate must-have.
